Original Artwork

I have been creating original artwork for more than 20 years, during which time I’ve developed a unique and visually striking style. I have some examples here, but I have a lot more on my Suprised Eel Mapping website here. You can purchase any of these — and more! — on t-shirts, prints, coffee cups, etc. And if you’re interested in bespoke drawings, I do take commissions!

Freeform Art

Most of my artwork falls into one of  two distinct categories. The first is freeform drawings. These are usually inkpen drawings that I being without a goal in mind. I let the pen pen go where it wants on the page, creating random lines and shapes. Often, I will be able to eventually see an image emerging from the mess, and in those cases I will try to complete the image that I see. Sometimes, nothing appears, and the drawing remains a mess of lines and shapes. Here are some examples that I’ve grouped into like categories:

Birds and Bird-like Things

Almost-Humans

Monsters and Animals

Directed Art

The second type of drawing is what I call Directed Art, and it’s a newer approach for me. This is where I start with a specific object or image in mind. The

Other

While the black and while drawings above comprise most of the non-cartographic art that I create, I do occasionally branch out in different directions. Other” is probably the best way to describe this category.

Again, there’s more examples on my business website, as well as information for both commissioning a new drawing, or purchasing an existing one. Link
